Seniors lead Pioneers through growing pains

TENSLEEP- The 2015-2016 basketball campaign for the Ten Sleep boys basketball was an up and down one.

The team had strong leadership among its three seniors but the rest of the team was made up of freshmen and sophomores. The growing pains that come with young basketball players resulted in peaks and valleys for the team.

Before the Ten Sleep alumni game on March 19 head coach Ben Schwarz commented "that the team fought hard each and every game. The young guys came in inexperienced and by the end of the season made tremendous improvements. The seniors led this team like you'd expect them to and showed the rest of the team how to play the game. "

For the season the Pioneers finished 7-15 overall with a 3-5 conference record.

Ten Sleep won the coin flip against Meeteetse for the No. 3-seed at the regional tournament and avoided the play-in game. They dropped their first game of the 1A West Regional Tournament in Lander in late February against Little Snake River 45-33. The next game would be an elimination game against Farson-Eden. The Pioneers fought hard to keep their season alive for another day but fell to the Pronghorns 61-57.

Seniors Quentin Fettig, Jay Lee and Sam Treece provided excellent leadership for this otherwise young team. Fettig led the conference in steals, assists and was eighth in scoring with a season–high output of 32 against Arvada Clearmont. Treece was fourth in the conference in rebounding and pulled down 19 boards in a single game. He also was fourth in the conference for field goal percentage. Lee average 10.5 points, 5.6 rebounds and 1.9 steals per game.

Fettig and Lee were also unanimous selections to the 1A Northwest All-Conference team.

While the three senior leaders will be tough to replace the Ten Sleep Pioneers boys basketball program looks to be in good shape. Seven underclassmen will be returning for next year as they look to build on the lessons learned from this season. With hard work put in during the summer season and basketball camps, the future looks promising for this young squad.
