Aquatic Center to open on two holidays

WORLAND – The Worland Aquatic Center (WAC) will now be open for half days on Memorial Day and Presidents Day and a full day on graduation day after the topic was tabled at last month’s Joint Powers Board meeting.

At the March 8 board meeting the topic was discussed but a decision was tabled until Tuesday.

Now, the aquatic center will be open 1 to 5 p.m. on Memorial Day (May 30) and Presidents Day (in February) plus a full day for graduation (May 22), Worland Aquatic Center Manager Dave Villa said.

Previously, the aquatic center was closed all three days, totaling 10 days closed and one day of half closure on Thanksgiving break. After Tuesday’s meeting, the aquatic center will only be closed seven days with three days of half closure throughout the year.

Other business included the discussion for staff wage increase.

Villa said some of his employees have been there since the beginning and have earned an increase in wage, but wanted to know if he needed board permission to give those employees raises.

The board decided to wait until they start a preliminary budget in May to see if a wage increase is in the budget.

Washakie County Commissioner Terry Wolf suggested to the board if a wage increase is not in the books now, maybe a one-time stipend could be given to benefit employees.

In attendance were board members Mandy Horath, Carolyn Bies, Jack Stott, Dalton Jeffries, Duke Jones and Villa. Board member Chuck Russell and Wolf were present via conference call.
