Worland soccer teams swept by Jackson

JACKSON- The Lady Warriors and Warriors soccer teams were both defeated by the Jackson teams in Jackson Saturday afternoon.

The Lady Warriors battled with the Lady Broncos for all 80 minutes. Matching them goal for goal and at one point had the lead. But a few defensive miscues led to Jackson scoring twice in the match's final 10 minutes for the 5-3 final score.

"We had a few lapses that resulted in a breakdown on defense and Jackson jumped on the opportunity and made us pay," said coach Danielle Warren.

While the outcome wasn't what she expected coach Warren saw some positive takeaways from the match, "This game was a stepping stone, something we as a team can build off of. We were right there with them and just made a few errors and that was the difference." Stepping stone game, played hard, just need to keep our intensity and focus up for the whole game.

"The girls played hard and were aggressive from the star. This showed we are more than capable of beating them and moving forward we will need to keep our intensity and focus up for all eighty minutes," added coach Warren.

The Warriors also tested the Broncos but lost 2-0 to the home team.

"We played well, we made a few tweaks that gave us some scoring chances but we couldn't put the ball in the back of the net," said coach Ron Overcast.

Worland had three breakaway attempts in the match, one of which was within in the first six minutes, but weren't able to make Jackson pay for the defensive mistakes.

At the end of the first half the score was 0-0 but two goals in the second half would seal Worland's fate for the afternoon.

"We came out with good energy, a sense of urgency and played tough. We just need to finish our chances on goal," Overcast said.

He added, "The good thing with this group is even though they played Jackson better than they had before. They weren't patting themselves on the back. The captains (Jacob Lamm and Kyle Lamb) spoke to the team on how they can't be satisfied and that coming close isn't good enough. And you like seeing that with a team because you know they're going to keep working at getting better each day."

Going forward, coach Overcast wants to keep taking the season one game at a time, with the goal of winning the quadrant as that would guarantee the Warriors a spot in the state tournament.

The next two matches for the Lady Warriors and Warriors will be at Pinedale on Friday at 3 and 5 p.m., respectively. On Saturrday, both teams will be on the road again as they travel to Star Valley for 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 a.m. matches, respectively.
