Worland art students awarded at State Art Symposium

WORLAND – Worland High School Art students did well at the Wyoming State Art Symposium at the Casper Events Center April 22 - 23 bringing home many blue ribbons. Two of their art pieces will be on display in the State Capitol. The State Art Symposium is an art competition where all the schools in the state compete against each other.

“The students did very well bringing home six blue ribbons, winning two 3-D Artistic Discovery Awards and winning first place in the spontaneous sculpture competition,” Worland High School art teacher Pam Greek said. “Jamon Dower, with his fused glass piece titled ‘organic’ and Charles Rishel, with his plastic utensil bird piece titled ‘Spoonbill’ won the 3-D Artistic Discovery Awards and their pieces will be on display in the State Capital,” she added.

Blue ribbon winners are:

Charles Rishel - bird sculpture.

Jamon Dower - fused glass piece.

Madisyn Boltz - Vans shoes sculpture.

Alexa Caballero – fused glass and hammered copper jewelry.

Jenna Grzybowski – charcoal still life.

Morgan Pennington – polymer clay jewelry.

The symposium also has the First Lady award, where the governor’s wife chooses art pieces to be displayed in the governor’s mansion. “It should also be noted that Wyoming First Lady Carol Mead visits the state art symposium to personally select several student works to exhibit in the Governor’s Mansion for the following year.  While Worland did not have any selected this year (we have in the past), the fact that Mrs. Mead is such a huge supporter of what we do needs to be acknowledged.  I don’t know of too many other high school state competitions that leaders of the state attend on a yearly basis,” Greek said.
