Fight on Tom Brady, fight on

Raise your hand if you're annoyed/tired with Deflategate? Since we unanimously agree that this is the Freddy Kruger of stories, let's talk about Deflategate.

As it broke Monday afternoon, Tom Brady will have to serve the original four-game suspension handed down to him by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, for his role in deflating footballs in the 2015 AFC Championship Game against the Indianapolis Colts, after the appeals court in Manhattan voted 2-1 in favor of the NFL.

When you look at the ruling it's not surprising; the judges weren't there to poke more holes (Which they did anyway) in the NFL's ridiculously flawed report and findings. They were there to decide if Goodell's impulsive punishment was within his powers. Which it was, because the National Football League Players Association (NFLPA) were the ones who gave Goodell entirely too much power in the collective bargaining agreement (CBA).

Nevertheless, Tom Brady should keep fighting the 'Marxist' Roger Goodell. He should keep appealing all the way to the Supreme Court and once that's over, he should sue Goodell and the NFL for defamation.

If you're a Patriots hater or loathe Tom Brady, it makes sense why you want him to pay. He and the Patriots have consistently beaten everyone in the NFL for the last two decades. Pure and simple it's jealously and how could you pass up an opportunity to attack a rival?

But here's why everyone, including the anti-Brady and anti-Pats people, should be rooting for him to defeat Goodell. The commissioner has entirely too much power and hasn't shown the ability to harness that power. His decision making, when it comes to punishment or handling scandal, isn't that of a person with actual or logical thoughts. He's turned the NFL into a laughingstock.

When it comes to scandal, his method of operation insists of first dipping his toes in the pool of public opinion, lazily investigate the scandal, ignore key facts that go against his toe dip and finish it off with an overzealous or lenient punishment.

His one saving grace and the reason he still has the position, is making money and being a shield for the the 32 NFL owners.

Bountygate, Ray Rice, Adrian Peterson and Greg Hardy are some of his most recent swing-and-a-miss moments. All of these scandals had merit to them and were horrible in their respect. But Goodell bungled each one so awfully that every single suspension was overturned or reduced.

Until Deflategate, the Ray Rice incident was his worst handled scandal. Not only did he have the means to getting the tape inside the elevator, he honestly thought it would never surface in this day and age of social media. He gave a light suspension to Rice and then when the video dropped he was left scrambling and his only recourse was to pretend to be tough.

The moment Deflategate broke, Goodell has handled it like any fan would, with extreme bias and leaning on emotion rather than evidence.

Starting with the facts, ESPN's Chris Mortensen reported 11 of the 12 footballs used by the Patriots were two pounds under the 12.5 PSI minimum. That was wildly false, 10 of the 11 were just a barely under the, 12.5 PSI and only one was two pounds under. As for the one that was two pounds under, that ball was in possession of the Colts after a D'Qwell Jackson interception.

Would it be within reason to speculate the Colts, a team who has had its brains beaten in by the Patriots for the past two decades, could have possibly tampered with the ball? Yes it certainly is. Was there an investigation into that? NOPE. Why? Because he's Roger Goodell and he's laughably incompetent.

Roger Goodell's Deflategate case against the Pats and Brady is as flimsy as, well, Roger Goodell's Deflategate case against the Pats and Brady. He has set the standard for flimsy. Did the NFL record the PSI numbers for each ball before the game? Did they purposely leak information to make it look like Brady was lying? Was the Ted Wells Report purposely vague because there was no concrete evidence? Did they ignore the science, like Ideal Gas Law, surrounding this case? No, yes, yes and yes.

The NFL at no point recorded the PSI of the footballs before the game, so how do we know the Pats initially deflated the balls if we have no base numbers? And furthermore raises the question of how the one ball in the Colts possession was so much lower than the rest.

The NFL also kept leaking things like, "Brady denied ever talking to the equipment managers" or "Brady refuses to hand over cell phone," both of which were, again, false. Brady acknowledged and never hid his conversations with the equipment personell and was told he didn't have to turn over his phone. This isn't hearsay it's actual fact. Judge Richard Berman, who overtunerd the suspension in September, released the transcripts, much to the disliking of the NFL, of Brady's meeting with Goodell and investigators. Those transcripts showed he admitted to talking with the equipment personnel and was told he wouldn't need to hand over his phone.

What this says about Goodell is, his comprehension skills are lacking or he flat-out lied. With that known and you were in Brady's position, when the NFL decided to change its mind and wants your cell phone. Would you ever trust your phone with that guy?  Or would you destroy it?

Goodell needs to let go of not only Deflategate but the doling out punishment. Punishing someone because you don't like them or have a suspicion they did something, works well in the People's Republic of North Korea but last I checked the NFL resides in the United States where you need that pesky evidence for proof of wrong doing.

Truthfully, what Goodell needs is, a figurative, George to his Lennie. Someone who will tell him a story of all the money he has made for the league and not to worry about all his embarrassing gaffes, just look across the river and imagine the perfect NFL.
