WORLAND - The Cowboy Joe Golf Tournament hosted at the Green Hills Golf Course over the weekend was all the fun promised and more.
The tournament which is a series of tournaments put on by the Cowboy Joe Club throughout the state to raise money for the student-athletes at the University of Wyoming.
"The early forecast said it was to rain all day but the weather held up, we had a pretty good turnout and overall the event was very positive, " said golf professional Mike Propp.
From start to finish the tournament had a fun, relaxed atmosphere. There were 60 players divided into 15 teams with good friendly banter between the teams and even amongst teammates. All day you could hear teams whoop and holler from all over the course as they celebrated big drives or clutch putts. This camaraderie within the teams and other competitors was the core to the entertainment of the day.
The team of Randy Simmons, Karston Simmons, Ryan Baumister and Sterling Schroefel won the tournament and will play in Cowboy Joe's Tournament of Champions in Laramie. Finishing in second was the team of TR Roberts, Tony Rideout, Josh Craft and Erin Craft.
All-American wrestler Bryce Meredith and assistant wrestling coach McCade Ford added to the day's fun by being terrific guests. Even the staff of the Cowboy Joe Club, all of whom were friendly, were also a blast to be around. From senior associate athletics director for development and revenue Randy Welniak, director of events Samie Freeman and even a former cheerleader turned intern Cassie Craddock. It didn't matter the title, whenever you bumped into a CJC staffer you'd be met with a smile and helpful assistance.
"The course was in good condition we had many compliments throughout the day and we're excited for next year's tournament," added Propp.
So this time next year be sure not to miss out on the fun-filled experience of the Cowboy Joe tournament when it rolls into Worland.
