Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
LANDER - The Best of the Best meet brought, well, the best of the best athletes from each middle school track team to compete in the final meet of the season Thursday afternoon.
Amongst the state's top competition, the Worland Middle School track team ended their season strongly with multiple top-placed finishes.
Eighth grader Kate Wassum swept the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes, seventh graders Carmyn Buckman (discus), Cole Harmon (high jump) and Taylor Pierce all took first place in their respective events. Seventh grader McKenna Mickelson was first in the triple jump, second in the long jump and sixth in the 100-meter. Eighth grader Luke Mortimer was second in the 100-meter hurdles, 200-meter hurdles and high jump.
WMS track coach Rob Woffinden thought his athletes had a great outing and finished the season just as he liked, "We had a very strong performance. This was a huge meet, most of the middle schools in Wyoming attend. We had several athletes place and a few kids actual won their events which was an awesome accomplishment considering the size of the meet. It was a great end to a great season."
