What a difference a week makes; Warriors dominate Douglas

WORLAND- After dropping a match last week against Cody that cost them the quadrant. The Worland Warriors soccer team came out firing against the Douglas Bearcats and won 8-0.

While the Bearcats were a young inexperienced team and the weather was typical Wyoming weather the Warriors still approached the match from a professional, business-like mindset. There are things they needed to work on as a team, things that will help them achieve their goal of contending for a state championship, and they went to work on those improvements.

"We haven't been finishing well lately and after last week, all through practice we focused on our finishing by using the side of your foot. And we did a better job of that tonight, we still sailed a few over the net but we'll continue to work on that in practice," said coach Ron Overcast.

In the first half the Warriors had it rolling with goals in the 12th, 18th, 19th and 36th minutes by Mason Werbelow, Rylan Macko, Jorge Carmona and Joeseph Keller, respectively. Worland kept up the consistency by scoring another four goals in the second half by Brayan Castro (51st minute), Jakob Schaeffer (57th minute), Daniel Araiza (60th minute) and Jacob Lamm (63rd minute).

"Sometimes I think we've been our own worst enemy. We've generated plenty of scoring opportunities but weren't finishing them. So for this kind of performance today is something we needed as a team," added coach Overcast.

The Warriors will play Douglas again this Saturday in Worland for the regional play-in game. Winner of the match will move on to face Jackson in the first round of state tournament play. Even after the win coach Overcast reminded his team that from this point on it's win and survive, "There are no do-overs from here on out, you either win or go home. We need to head into practice focused, work hard and continue to improve."

The match between Worland and Douglas will begin at noon Saturday at Worland High School.
