Principal Joe Bishop retires after 25 years

WORLAND - Joe Bishop will be retiring after the 2015/2016 school year after being a principal for 25 years in Worland.

Bishop attended college at the University of Nebraska - Kearney majoring in education. He received a Bachelor of Arts degree in education and a Master of Science in education.

"I decided to go into education because I really enjoyed teaching children things that they didn't know or understand or think they could do." Bishop said.

Before becoming a principal, Bishop taught physical education at the elementary, middle and high school levels in Nebraska. He moved to Worland in 1985 and worked as a P.E. teacher at the middle school. He also became a counselor during his time at the Worland Middle School for two years.

After that, he became the principal at South Side Elementary School. In 2000, Bishop became the principal for both South Side Elementary and West Side Elementary school until 2013 when he became the principal for just West Side.

"I will miss the student's creativity, love, uniqueness and concern for others." Bishop said.

After retiring, Bishop has no major plans, but will be spending time with his grandchildren.

"Joe Bishop is a very pastoral leader to all parents and kids. He is all around a great guy," Superintendent David Nicholas said.
