Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
WORLAND — Longtime teller for ANB Bank, Mary Hoffman, is retiring after 62 years.
Hoffman started into banking when she was a senior in high school. “Second semester of my senior year I worked half days and I’ve been here ever since,” she said.
“I was just was working and didn’t see any point in quitting and I didn’t have anything else to do,” Hoffman added.
Hoffman has been with the bank through two name changes and seen how banking has changed over the years.
Hoffman said, “We used to come into work in the morning and hand post on a posting machine the debits and credits to people’s accounts. Our ledgers for the bank were handwritten; we didn’t have computers to do it. All work was processed through an IBM proofing machine and then went to bookkeeping to post the checks and deposits to people’s accounts.”
She says that banking has changed a lot with the new technology available.
“I will miss the customers and the people that I work with,” she said.
Hoffman currently has no plans for her retirement. “I will do what I want to do when I want to do it. I’m not making any plans until I’ve relaxed a little bit.”
