Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
WORLAND - Worland's Karsten Simmons has been 'en fuego' on the golf course lately.
The 12-year-old golfer had a hole-in-one on hole No. 3 at the Green Hills Golf Course Friday during the Deboyna tournament.
Simmons wasn't done with the hole-in-one. He's also competing in the Wyoming Junior Golf Tour and on Monday and Tuesday there was a tournament at the Powder Horn Golf Club in Sheridan. Simmons shot a 39 on the first day, a 38 the second day for a total of 77, crowning him the tournament champion.
Simmons' 77 was six strokes better than that of second place. Along with competing in the Wyoming Junior Golf Tour, he also participates in the Rocky Mountain Junior Golf Tour
Karsten Simmons' father, Randy Simmons, talked on how hard his son works improving his game, "During the school year he'd get home from school, change clothes, grab his clubs, hop on the four-wheeler and head out to the course. The best and most impressive part of all of that is we don't have to tell him to get out there at all; he has the drive all on his own."
"His hard work has paid off, there will be times where he even gets me out there on the course," said Randy Simmons. "He'll even go out with myself and some other friends and often times he's shooting better than they are," he added.
Green Hills golf professional Mike Propp also commented on Karsten Simmons' work ethic, "To excel like he has at this game you have to have talent and desire but the desire has to come first and he definitely has that. He's out here working really hard and when you accompany that with his talent he's on a great trajectory."
The next tournament for Karsten Simmons will be another leg in the Rocky Mountain Junior Golf Tour at the Riverton Country Club in Riverton on July 3 and 4.
