JAC rejects asking for special session 

CHEYENNE (AP) — The Legislature’s Joint Appropriations Committee has voted against asking for a special legislative session to address Wyoming’s financial woes.

The decision Wednesday came a day after Gov. Matt Mead detailed about $248 million in budget cuts.

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle reports that the appropriations committee doesn’t have the ability to initiate a special session on its own, but must ask the Legislature’s Management Council to request one.

The two Democrats on the appropriations committee were the only ones to vote in favor of a special session.

Democratic Rep. Cathy Connolly, of Laramie, said the Legislature would be able to free up some money that was not available to Mead.

But Republicans on the committee said they believed Mead’s cuts were sufficient until the next regular legislative session in 2017.
