Names released in fatal crash near Worland

WORLAND — Wyoming Highway Patrol released the names of the persons involved in the fatal crash on Thursday, July 23.

According to the official release from the WHP, a fatal crash north of Worland on June 23 resulted in the death of 38-year-old Butte, Mont., resident Donna Rollins. The crash occurred at 5:55 p.m. near mile post 167 on US Highway 20 approximately two miles north of Worland.  

Donna Rollins was a passenger in a 2001 Chevrolet Blazer SUV being driven by 61-year-old Deer Lodge, Mont., resident Elizabeth Rollins. The Chevy was traveling south on US 20 when the SUV initially went onto the shoulder and was overcorrected. During the overcorrection, the SUV tripped and rolled multiple times.  

Donna Rollins was wearing her seat belt, but still sustained fatal injuries on scene.  

Elizabeth Rollins, 41-year-old Worland resident Dale Rollins and 56-year-old Worland resident Molly Hixon, were all buckled in and were transported by ground ambulance to Washakie Medical Center in Worland. A 4-year-old child in the Chevy was properly restrained in a child seat and was also transported by ground ambulance to Washakie Medical Center in Worland. Their conditions at the time of this release are unknown.    

Driver fatigue along with a possible medical condition prior to the crash are being investigated as contributing factors in this crash that marked the 38th highway fatality in Wyoming for 2016. There were 64 fatalities during this same time period in 2015. 

No charges from this crash have been filed at this time. The investigation is still ongoing.
