Ten Sleep football standouts have one 'last hurrah'

ALBION - The Wyoming 6-man All-Star team lost for the second year in a row to the Nebraska All-Stars in the fifth annual 6-man shootout football game 59-32.

Going into halftime Wyoming was down eight to Nebraska but coming out of the break Nebraska made a few more adjustments leading to them outscoring Wyoming 31-12.

Meeteetse's Carter Johnson led Wyoming in receiving with eight catches for 220 yards and three touchdowns. Ten Sleep's Quentin Fettig also had a touchdown with three catches for 29 yards. Unofficially Ten Sleep's JD Nelson was one of the leading tacklers for Team Wyoming.

Like with any competitor the loss wasn't the planned result, nevertheless Ten Sleep's Fettig and Nelson soaked in the experience and it will be one they won't soon forget.

"It was a lot of fun," said Fettig, "From the moment we arrived they had a whole list of activities planned for us. They took us to an NCAA baseball game and we watched UofA (University of Arizona) and OKST (Oklahoma State University), then there were plenty more things going on that helped build team chemistry."

"It was a really good experience. It was a little weird teaming up with guys that you were trying to beat all season," said Nelson, "But when we got their we realized it was Wyoming against Nebraska which allowed us to bond as a team."

On top of playing football and taking in a College World Series game, the Ten Sleep alum walked away from the experience with building new friendships with former competitors.

"It was a fun group of guys and team to be a part of. There was so much talent on the team and the fact that I was about to get a touchdown was cool, could have had two touchdowns but one was called back. It was still a great experience and one that I'm not going to forget," said Fettig.

For Nelson playing in his final football game he was going to find a way to make it memorable, "Toward the end of the game I started to realize I wasn't going to play football ever again. On a kickoff return I turned to one of our players Zak Rose and said 'Man this is going to be the last time we're going to play football so I'm going to hit someone.' And on that kickoff (Nebraska) attempted an onside kick and there was a kid in my area. So I lowered the pads and plowed right through him. I'm never going to forget that moment," said Nelson.

Fettig and Nelson's high school football coach Andy Ray, traveled to watch his former players compete and also spoke on their accomplishments, "Those two worked their tails off the last two years and they earned their spots on the team," said coach Ray.
