Richard A "Dick Steele passed away June 26, 2016 at the Washakie Medical Center after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Dick was born April 2, 1939 in Scottsbluff, Nebraska to H.R. "Bud" and Dorothy (Meston) Steele. He moved to Worland with his family in 1952, graduating from Washakie County High School in 1957. While in school he worked for Triangle Meat Packing. Following graduation, he joined the US Navy where he served for 23 years, retiring in 1980. After his retirement, the family moved to Worland, where he worked for the Washakie County School District for several years.
He married Maria Armenta on October 21, 1967 in San Diego, California. To this union one son, Richard was born.
He enjoyed model trains and the Big Horn Mountains. He was a member of the American Legion Post #44 and the VFW. He was a board member of the Worland Fire Department for many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Maria, son, Richard J. (Anna) Steele of Lincoln, Nebraska; grandchildren, Kathleen (Kyle) Elmore, Ryan Steele; great-grandchildren: Aria and Parker Elmore, brother, David Steele of Rancho Mirage, California; sister, Peggy (Jay) Mangus of Worland and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, July 1, 2016 at the Bryant Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Mike Orona officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post #44.
