Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
BELLE FOURCHE - The Senior Babe Ruth Big Horn Basin Blue Jays baseball team traveled to Belle Fourche, S.D., for the four-day Wyoming state championship.
The Blue Jays opened the tournament against Rock Springs Wednesday morning and had another two games against Gillette and Buffalo Thursday afternoon.
Against Rock Springs the Blue Jays fought hard but fell by a score of 8-5.
In the first game on Thursday the Blue Jays went head to head against Gillette. The Blue Jays were down 10-3 at one point but an offensive outburst in the bottom of the fourth cut Gillette's lead to three. At the top of the fifth the Blue Jays defense played stoutly allowing zero runs.
With time running out the Blue Jays had the bottom of the fifth to tie or win the game. With two outs and runners on first and third, Macaiah Houser was at bat as the tying run. Houser took a strong cut but it was fouled off and caught by the Gillette catcher for the game ending out and the Blue Jays lost 10-7.
The Blue Jays game against the Buffalo had yet to finish at press time.
For today, the Blue Jays have another doubleheader, at 11:30 a.m. they play host Belle Fourche and 2 p.m. they go against Newcastle. Both games can be heard on 1340 KWOR-AM Big Horn Basin Radio.
