Summer Fun Camp: The Olympics gets kids moving and learning

WORLAND – The Olympics are coming to Worland with Summer Fun Camp and Team U.S., Team Mexico, Team France and Team Trinidad and Tobago competing for the "gold."

Summer Fun Camp: The Olympics will take place Friday a little after 1 p.m. at the Worland Community Center Complex with Olympics games like hula hopping, running, Frisbee, jump roping and volleyball throwing (a child-friendly version of the shot put.)

Camp Director Courtney Seghetti said, "The kids are separated into four groups named after countries ... and have been practicing all week."

Team Mexico, U.S., France and Trinidad and Tobago practice a circuit of each activity daily and in addition have started Olympic-themed crafts like torches (made out of paper towel rolls and tissue paper.)

Seghetti added the youth have learned Olympic-related facts and trivia, and on Wednesday morning, the children colored a picture of the Goddess Nike.

Camp Directors Sheryl Ley and Seghetti said they do two of these a year and the goal "is to get the kids moving and away from TV screens."

Summer Fun Camp: The Olympics will begin Friday after 1 p.m. after the youth arrive at the Worland Community Center Complex.
