TEN SLEEP – Ten Sleep School officials are pleased to learn from data obtained from the Wyoming Department of Education that Ten Sleep High School ranked No. 1 in the state in science, with a score of 22.5, for the 2015-2016 ACT testing.
“We are tickled to death. It shows the hard work put in by the kids and the teacher. We hope to remain consistent over the years on being toward the top. It’s hard to always be No. 1 but we sure like to be on the upper end of things,” Ten Sleep School Principal Russ Budmayr stated.
According to edu.wyoming.gov, “ACT Plus Writing is the capstone of the ACT college and career readiness system. It measures students’ general learning outcomes in English, math, reading, writing, and science. This assessment is given once a year to all students in the 11th grade.”
In reading, Ten Sleep High School did almost as well ranking third in the state, with a score of 22. “In reading we are substantially better this year (2015-2016) than in the previous year, so that to me is encouraging,” Budmayr said.
In English, Ten Sleep ranked 10th, with a score of 20.3 and in math, 17th, with a score of 20.3. “We are going to put some emphasis this year with all the data on the board, where it really plants the seed in the teachers’ minds that test scores are important; they are not everything, but they are a part of it,” Budmayr stated.
Overall Ten Sleep High School ranked fourth in the state. “There are 48 districts and to be ranked fourth out of all those is very pleasing and just like science we hope to maintain it and it just again shows the hard work of the teachers, the kids and especially that the parents value education. That sure puts us in a good position to be successful,” Budmayr said.
