Worland High School girls swimming team takes down Cody in first dual of the season

CODY - The Worland High School girls swimming team traveled to Cody Thursday night for a dual and the Lady Warriors outswam the Fillies to a score of 174 to 107.

WHS girls swimming coach Mike Blissett was thrilled with his team's performance. "They swam really well, we had a lot of good swims and some surprises tonight," said coach Blissett.

Coach Blissett liked the way his swimmers kick-started the season. "There's always room for improvement at the beginning of the season. Some girls had times they liked and others not so much. So it was a mixed bag but overall we exceeded our expectations," said Blissett.

There were no personal records set but the Lady Warriors had five swimmers and one diver automatically qualifies for the Wyoming State Championship meet. Those Lady Warriors are Kaci Bentley (200-meter freestyle), Ellyse Russell (200m individual medley, 500m), Juli Warren (200m IM, 100M butterfly) Kristen Collingwood (200m IM, 100m butterfly), Hannah McEndree (100m butterfly) and Kyra Klinghagen (diving).

With the strong start coach Blissett wants his team to use this as the motivation and confidence needed to achieve their team goal of being the best. "They've been working really hard and with the times we saw today, it shows the hard work is paying off. So hopefully this validates what we are doing and we can move forward from there. They are also learning to be comfortable with their capabilities and if they believe in themselves enough they can accomplish their goals. Which for us, as a team, is to try and takedown everyone else at state," said Blissett.

The Lady Warriors will be back in the water today at 2 p.m. in Cody for the Cody Invite.
