Worland golf keeps making positive strides

SHERIDAN - The golf season is quickly coming to a close and the Worland High School golf team has improved with each week.

Members of both girls and boys teams set personal records while competing in the Sheridan Invite at the Kendrick Golf Club in Sheridan on Sept. 1 - 2.

On the boys team Jose Galarza (98), Logan Foote (97), James Velazquez (104) and Karter Dunham (122) recorded personal best rounds. For the girls team Katelin Scheuerman finished eighth while teammates Rachael Carver (107), Katelyn Shearer (122) and Saibrynn Dover (118).

"I was quite pleased with our performance in Sheridan," said WHS golf coach Chad Rose when asked for his thoughts on the team's performance. "There are plenty of opportunities for our players to get some big numbers out there, and they are sticking to our game plan. As we get better, that game plan is changing but it is working very well right now. A perfect example is Rachael Carver. She had her biggest struggle of the season on the first hole in Sheridan, and went on to shoot a score near her lowest, and then demolish her PR. She is littering her score card with 4s, which allows her to have a mistake or two and still shoot a great score. She is relying on her short game and minimalizing mistakes in her approaches. All the kids did that well this week."

Next for the WHS golfers will be a home tournament on the September 8 and 9. The results from the Sheridan Invite are as follows.
