Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
TEN SLEEP - The Ten Sleep volleyball season is only two weeks old but the Lady Pioneers have regained their balance after a tough tournament in Big Horn
Starting their season at the Big Horn Invite, and going 1-6, the Lady Pioneers bounced back in a big way last weekend by defeating conference rival St. Stephens on Friday and Arvada-Clearmont Saturday morning.
Ten Sleep won 3-1, 25-21, 17-25, 25-19, 25-15, verses St. Stephens and 3-0 against Arvada-Clearmont, 25-22, 25-23, 25-20.
The quick turnaround has Lady Pioneer volleyball coach Desiree Egger enthusiastic about her team. "They're playing together," said coach Egger. "Most years it takes us awhile to get there, which also leads to us having trouble closing out games. We could still improve our serving and serve/receive but so far this season they've been playing together and we can finish games close games, and that showed over the weekend."
Coach Egger credits her team's strong start to senior leadership and a technically sound freshman class. This year is a good start because in the past it has taken us awhile to get going. These girls are willing to work with one another, we have strong leadership in a good group of seniors and our freshman know their fundamentals," said coach Egger.
One of those freshman who has provided a boost to the team is setter Madison Anderson. "She did really well, her and Madison Anderson had a good connection this weekend," said coach Egger.
On Saturday the Lady Pioneers will travel to Hanna for the Hanna Invite and coach Egger will treat the tournament as a measuring stick of sorts for her team. "We'll get to play against schools our same size, who we may see at regionals or hopefully state, rather than schools like Cody or Lovell," said coach Egger. "It will be really nice because we will see how we look against other 1A teams."
