Lifelong Worland resident Robert "Bob" Harry Lass died Sunday, September 11, 2016 at Worland Healthcare Center of complications from Parkinson's disease. He was 87.
Bob was born December 25, 1928 in a farmhouse northeast of Worland to Conrad and Katherine (Lehman) Lass Sr. He went to school in Worland and graduated from Washakie County High School in 1946.
After graduation he farmed with his father and brother northwest of Worland. He married his sweetheart Frances M. Rhodes on February 28, 1954 in Worland. The couple began farming on their own in 1960. Bob really loved his farm on West River Road and never lost his passion for his cows.
An excellent farmer, Bob was awarded the Washakie County Outstanding Young Farmer in 1963, and also had been named the top Washakie County Beet Grower Award.
He served his community on many boards including the Big Horn Canal Board of Directors, Washakie County Beet Growers Assn, Worland Jaycees, Big Horn Basin Feeders, ASCS, Washakie County Conservation District, and the Federal Land Bank.
Bob also was a 4-H leader for many years. He had been a lifetime member of Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church where he served on the Consistory Board, was a Sunday School Superintendent and Sunday school teacher, and sang in the choir for over 50 years.
He was preceded in death by his parents and by his son John Lass in 2009.
Bob is survived by his wife Frances of Worland; by his daughters Karen (Nick) Geis II, Barbara (Bill) Sinclair, and Laura (Brett) Nelson, all of Worland. Grandchildren surviving are Katie (Adam) Tommerup of Worland, Adam (Mary) Geis of Covington Township, PA, Marcus (Tammy) Geis of Worland, Jessie Sinclair of Seattle, WA, Travis Sinclair of Thornton, CO, Chelsie (Zeke) Steele of Eagle Mountain, UT, Kimberly Nelson and Kaela Nelson both of Worland; and by four great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by his brother Con (Alice) Lass and his sisters Dorothy Schleiger and Lorraine (Gene) Miller all of Worland; and by several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The casket will be open on Wednesday, Sept.14th, from 7:-8:30PM at the Veile Mortuary Chapel and on Thursday from 9:00AM until service time at the church.
The funeral service will be on Thursday, September 15th at 10:30 AM at Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church in Worland. Burial will follow at Riverview Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Worland.
