TEN SLEEP — Traffic delays are expected beginning next week when a $1.94 million pavement improvement project begins on U.S. 16 east of Ten Sleep.
Prime contractor McGarvin-Moberly Construction Co., of Worland plans to mill/remove 1 1/2 inches of asphalt pavement on the 7.72-mile project. Milling of pavement will be followed with a two-inch pavement overlay, according to Wyoming Department of Transportation resident engineer Dan McAfee of Worland.
Asphalt milling is scheduled to begin Sept. 19, and paving is scheduled to begin Sept. 27. All highway improvements are dependent upon favorable weather.
The project begins about eight miles east of Ten Sleep (near the Wyoming Game and Fish Department’s fish hatchery) and extends nearly eight miles east through Ten Sleep Canyon to the Ten Sleep Creek bridge. Paving of the Mondo Beyondo climbers’ area parking lot near Ten Sleep Creek is also part of this project.
“Motorists should expect traffic delays of up to 20 minutes, and traffic will be led through the project with the use of a pilot vehicle,” McAfee said. “Next June, the contractor is scheduled to return and complete chip sealing of the project.”
Contractor working hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
Contract completion date is June 30, 2017.
Project scope of work includes milling of asphalt pavement, placing crushed gravel base and asphalt pavement surfacing, chip sealing and other work on U.S. 16 beginning at milepost 34 between Ten Sleep and Buffalo.
