Bobcats narrowly miss out on three-peat
THERMOPOLIS - Thermopolis Bobcat junior Hudson Roling won the 3A state golf championship at the 3A State tournament at the Powell Golf Club last weekend.
Having won the regional championship in Buffalo the previous week, Roling added to the season's hardware by shooting a 76 during the rain shortened state tournament. His score was two strokes better than runner-up Chase Cochran (Wheatland) giving him the clean sweep of individual championships and his second straight all-state selection.
Roling was joined on the all-state team by teammate Caleb DeCroo who finished 10th shooting a 90 on the day.
The past two seasons the Thermopolis boys team has won the state championship at the 2A level. This season competing in 3A the Bobcats were still one of the top teams in the state finishing in the top three in multiple tournaments. The Bobcats goal of the three-peat fell short as they finished in third place by the slimmest of margins. The team was one stroke shy behind second-place Star Valley and five strokes behind 3A state champion Wheatland.
The Lady Bobcats finished ninth with a score of 372 and were led by Kaylee Smith and Kailee Johansen who shot a 116 and 122 respectively for the tournament.
Thermopolis golf coach Jacob Smith was reached for comment but was not returned before press time.
