Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Snow and cold on the way

WORLAND – The National Weather Service in Riverton is warning that 3 to 6 inches of snowfall is likely across the Big Horn Basin into Wednesday, with temperatures dropping to the high 30s for the area.

Dave Lipson, Lead Forecaster with NWS Riverton, stated that the Worland area will take the brunt of the weather change and snowfall, but it won’t last more than a few days. “In the overall scheme of things this is a hiccup,” said Lipson. “The farther north you go [from Riverton] will be more dramatic of a drop in temperature, with highs 35 degrees colder than the average temp on Monday.”

Lipson advises that the Buffalo region could also see 3 to 6 inches of snow, with 2 to 4 expected in the Wind River area. “Most of the snow is expected in the Big Horns, with up to half a foot,” said Lipson

The NWS is advising that travel may be affected across the Big Horn and Absaroka mountains, further affecting travel across Powder River, Granite, and Dead Indian Passes.

The prediction from the NWS indicates that the Casper area will be around 20 degrees cooler. East of the Continental Divide should see temperature drops of 15 degrees, with drops of 5 degrees to the west.
