Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Clifton L. Walls

Our loving dad, Clifton L. Walls, 94, passed away on October 5, 2016 in Worland, Wyoming. He was devoted to his family all of his life.

He was born on February 21, 1922 in Hollis, Oklahoma. As an infant he moved with his family to the panhandle of Texas in a horse-drawn wagon. The family worked for various farms around Plainview, Texas. Clifton started picking cotton in the fields as a five-year-old boy.

Times were hard then, and he worked part of the year and attended school when he could, but he eventually dropped out after completing the sixth grade.

At age sixteen he was working on his own, but still supported his family financially. Dad joined the U. S. Army in 1942 and served in Europe, where he was awarded a Purple Heart.

Following his discharge in 1945 he returned to Plainview, Texas and took work where he could find it.

He married Betty G. Eakin in Plainview, Texas on August 26, 1951, and the couple moved to the Los Angeles, California area in late 1952 where he went to work as a truck driver and found his way into the plastics extrusion industry. He eventually became a plant manager in the plastics business, retiring in 1985.

Dad then moved to the Essex, Montana area to help his daughter and son-in-law run a café. In 1999 he moved to Worland to live with his daughter, Joyce Brill.

He loved tinkering with anything that was broken or needed repairs. He enjoyed going to California in the winter to help one of his brothers work on cars, and to visit with relatives. In his spare time he loved to read, and to watch football games and baseball games. When he was in Worland, our dad liked to help around the house with the chores. He attended Zion Lutheran Church.

Dad was preceded in death by his parents and by three brothers and one sister.

He is survived by his children Randy (Jeannette) Walls of Chino, CA, Joyce (Richard Sr.) Brill of Worland, WY, and Myrna (Ron) Sullens of Columbia Falls, MT, by ten grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Also surviving are his brother Alton Lee Walls of Amarillo, TX, and a half-brother Billy Joe White of Dallas, TX.

The funeral for our dad will be held on Wednesday, October 12, 2016 at 10:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church with his son, Pastor Randy Walls, officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Worland with military graveside honors. The casket will be open at the funeral home on Tuesday from 4:00pm to 6:00pm, and closed at the church on Wednesday.

Memorials may be made to Z.E.S.T. Fund in care of Zion Lutheran Church – P. O. Box 376 – Worland, WY 82401-0376.
