Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Joan Marie Kindt

Joan Marie Kindt, 84-year-old Worland resident went home to be with her Lord on October 8, 2016 after a long courageous battle with cancer.

Joan was born on June 29, 1932 in Kismett, Montana, a daughter of Harold Pearl and Marie Louise (Tripp) Pangburn. In 1937 the family moved to Cat Creek, Montana where she attended a one-room school house through the 8th grade. She graduated from Winnett High School in 1950. She married Vernon Bauer. The couple had two children, Kenny and Esther. They were divorced in 1962. While in Winnett, Joan worked at a grocery store and café before moving to Powell, Wyoming to further her education. She returned to Billings, Montana after one year of college and went to work for a collection agency until 1969. It was in Billings that she met and married the love of her life, Raymond H. Kindt in 1964. The couple moved to Worland in 1969. Joan took employment as a secretary for John Tooley in the State of Wyoming Health Office. She also ran the scales at Holly Sugar Factory for over 20 years.

She claimed the privilege of taking care of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, which she enjoyed immensely. They were the apples of her eyes. She loved to camp, go fishing and cut wood beside her husband as they enjoyed the sights the mountains had to offer. She was very active in her church, First Southern Baptist, where she taught Sunday School, Bible School and served on the hostess committee for many years. Her church family was nearly as important as her own family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, son, Kenny Bauer and daughter, Esther Ruckman, and brother, Bob Pangburn.

Survivors include her husband Raymond, brother Gary (Linda) Pangburn of Greybull, WY, sister-in-law, Mary Beth Pangburn of Barnhart, Arizona, grandchildren, David (Christy) Swing of Worland and Michael Swing of Poulsbo, Washington, and great-grandchildren, Bryce and Breann Swing.
