Rebels takedown Pioneers for second straight win

Riverside offense and defense work together in jumping out to a 48-0 halftime lead

TEN SLEEP - After starting the 6-man football season 0-5 the Riverside Rebels won their second straight game of the season 62-34 versus the Ten Sleep Pioneers in Ten Sleep Saturday afternoon.

In their inaugural season in 6-man football the Rebels have begun to find their footing, beating the St. Stephens Eagles 53-0 the previous week and they wasted little time jumping all over the Pioneers of Ten Sleep.

On their second play from scrimmage Ryan Vigil hauled in a pass from quarterback Justen Miller and took it 60 yards to the house for the Rebels first score of the game. A successful drop kick gave Riverside an 8-0 lead.

The Pioneers tried to answer the Rebels scoring a drive with a drive of their own, even working into Rebel territory but were denied on fourth down. The Riverside offense was quick to capitalize as they gashed the Ten Sleep defense with big gains capping off the drive with another Miller to Ryan Vigil passing touchdown to go up 14-0.

On the ensuing possession Ten Sleep fumbled and the Riverside defense recovered giving their offense possession in Pioneer territory. The Rebel offense would not waste much time as they put up another score this time on a rushing touchdown by Sterling Foss for a 21-0 lead.

Down 21-0 things began to spiral out of control for the Pioneers. With their backs against their end zone a bad exchange led to another fumble but quick thinking by Ten Sleep's Corey Rice as he batted the ball out the back of the end zone only resulted in a safety rather another six points and a 23-0 deficit.

Getting the ball off the safety the Rebels marched down the field again for another touchdown and a 30-0 lead on a pass from Miller to Foss.

Starting the second quarter Ten Sleep's offense was still trying to find its rhythm but the Riverside defense was making that difficult. Constant pressure on Rice and quick defensive swarming made for the long day.

On Riverside's first possession in the second quarter the Ten Sleep defense made a stand and forced a fourth and short. Unfortunately, a missed assignment led to another Rebel passing touchdown as Zach Owen caught a throw from Miller then sprinted for the end zone.

Ten Sleep took their next possession and started to move into Riverside territory but Miller quickly crushed any positive momentum as he picked off a Rice pass and went the other way for six and a 42-0 lead.

The second unit for Riverside saw action and put up one score before the end of the first half on a Santiago Cisneros rushing touchdown to go up 48-0.

In the second half the Pioneers found better footing as they outscored the Rebels 34-14 but the lead was too large for Ten Sleep to overcome.

This week each team will play their final home games of the season as Riverside hosts Farson-Eden and Ten Sleep battles Meeteetse for homecoming.
