Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Stephen Dale Lyman, 71, of Ten Sleep, WY passed away, Monday, October 10, 2016 in Worland, WY at the Washakie Memorial Hospital. Dale was born in Worland on April 6, 1945 to Clair and Mildred (Riley) Lyman, the youngest of five children. Dale graduated from Ten Sleep High School in 1963; he excelled in basketball and football, later attending Mesa State College on a football scholarship. After college he served in the National Guard for several years. He married Sheri Bridwell in 1966, of this union two daughters were born, Lisa and Kelly. They later divorced. On May 1, 1981 he married Judy Van Horn, to this union were four children Ilka, Aishya, Sienna and Brant. They were sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple on August 20, 1983.
Dale worked on the family ranch for most of his life; he left a few times but the lifestyle he valued always drew him back. On the ranch he taught his children that hard work, integrity and a relationship with the lord would take them anywhere they wanted to go. Dale was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ Latter–day Saints and had a very strong testimony. He served faithfully in his many church callings. Dale and Judy were currently serving at the Billings Montana temple. He was a man of few words but when he spoke it was something worth listening to. His humor and quick wit was usually present unless cows were involved, then all bets were off!
Dale was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Paul and Barton, and nephew Donald Swander.
Survivors include his wife Judy, children Lisa Norris, Kelly Lyman, Ilka Lyman, Aishya Lyman, Sienna (Kevin) Couch and Brant Lyman. Ten grandchildren, Wren, Stetson, Vance and Payson Curtis, Cooper and Trae Norris, Bryley Moore, Canyon Egger, Asher Lyman and Braelyn Couch and one great-granddaughter, Khloie Curtis.
Funeral service will be at 3:00 pm, Thursday, October 13, 2016 at the Ten Sleep Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with President Carl Cottrell officiating. Burial will follow at the Ten Sleep Cemetery. Visitation for family and friends will be held one hour prior to services at the church.
