Father wishes to thank good Samaritan who helped his son

WORLAND — A grateful father is seeking the identity of a good Samaritan who helped his son last month.

Paul Geiger of Yonkers, New York, said he has been able to thank everyone who assisted and aided his son, after his son was severely injured in a motorcycle crash Aug. 11, except for the person who initially stopped.

Geiger said according to the crash report he obtained from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, on Thursday, Aug. 11, 2016, at about 6:20 p.m., lone motorcyclist, Ken Geiger, 50, (a lieutenant with the Yonkers, N.Y. Fire Dept.) was involved in an accident when he collided with an antelope causing him to lose control and sustain serious injury. The accident occurred on Wyoming Highway 31 near Hyattville, in Big Horn County.

Paul Geiger said his son went with a group to the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally and he was doing some sightseeing following the rally.

According to Paul Geiger, Ken Geiger lay unconscious and bleeding on or alongside the road for some time. A good Samaritan stopped and rendered first aid and called in the emergency to police.

“Those who responded undoubtedly saved his life,” Paul Geiger said. His son’s injuries included fractured ribs, perforated lung, concussion, broken foot and numerous abrasions.

Ken Geiger was taken to Washakie Medical Center and treated and then air lifted to Billings, Mont.

Paul Geiger said, “Our family would also like to thank each and every person involved for coming together like a lifesaving team,” he said. “I’m a retired detective and I was able to locate all the people involved and I sent them thank-yous and gifts. There’s only one person who’s missing. The good Samaritan who stopped that evening is a mystery and the family of Ken Geiger would like to say thank you.” He added, “This person stopped, this good Samaritan, and probably saved his life by calling it in and administering whatever first aid he was able to do.”

He added that the act of kindness and compassion shown to his son is not something people do in other parts of the country.

Paul Geiger said the person’s name does not need to be made public, he only wants the opportunity to say thank you.

He added, “Ken is slowly recovering at home after several surgeries.”

Paul Geiger asks if anyone knows who the good Samaritan is or if the good Samaritan reads this they may contact the Northern Wyoming Daily News at 307-347-3241 or [email protected] and the newspaper editor will put them in touch with the Geiger family.
