Milly Snider retires from her 'Hollywood' hospital

WORLAND – For the past 46 years, Amalia "Milly" Snider has been an integral element to Washakie Medical Center Banner Health in Worland.

Snider has spent her nearly five-decade career as a certified nurse's assistant and credits a love for people as the reason she stayed. "That's what it's all about. (Have) patience in us, love one another and we'll take care of everybody."

She lovingly calls Washakie Medical Center "her beautiful Hollywood Hospital," and said her career in the medical field was innate. "I had the knack. I was born with a knack to love people," and said the medical field was prominent in her family with her grandfather and uncle working in the field as well. "Even as a little kid, I (had) always done for everybody. I had it in me. It's in my family."

As an Austria native, Snider started working at a hospital there at 17 years old. "I was 34 years old when I started working here and I've been here ever since. I am thankful I got to work in this place," she said.

She doesn't see her time retirement from the hospital as an ending, rather a new beginning. With her newfound retired life, she said, "Life changes ... I will do everything and anything. I'm just going to enjoy life without working."

"I love everybody and you do what you can. You help everybody and always feel positive. Don't feel negative in life. You just have to be happy ... to love one another doesn't cost anything, it never fails. Take it each day," she said.

Washakie Medical Center CEO Jay Stallings said Milly has been joyful and a great example of charity to work around. "Milly brings a great deal of joy to everybody here. Every day she comes in and she leaves a gift of a pair of socks wrapped in tinfoil. ... She's been very gracious. She gives to everybody. She wants to give anything she has to everybody else. We are really going to miss her."

Above all, Snider said always be thankful for what she has been able to do the past 46 years, and the people along the way.

"I'll miss everybody. I'll miss the whole hospital, it's Hollywood," Snider said.
