Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Jeannie Rosemarie Jeffers, 69 died on November 8, 2016 at the Billing Clinic after complications from a heart attack.
Jeannie’s joys in life were her family, friends, gardening, crafts, the outdoors, and a good horse. Some of her best times were spent horseback. She passed this love on to her son, Troy. Fall and spring round up times have always brought fond memories of horses and family time. She was saddened not be able to still enjoy riding, as her health became more fragile due to her battle with type 1 diabetes.
Jeannie was born to Geneva and George Greet in Worland, Wyoming on October 14, 1947. She grew up on the family ranch at Big Trails outside of Ten Sleep, Wyoming. Jeannie attended the Big Trail school for three years and then Ten Sleep for the rest of her elementary school and then transferred to Mt. Ellis Academy in Bozeman, Montana. After graduation, she attended Walla Walla University in Washington and finished at Union College in Lincoln, Nebraska. Jeannie spent several summers during college working as the fire lookout on Black Mountain between Shell and Dayton. She graduated with a degree in social work.
She met and fell in love with Jeff Jeffers. His family had just purchased the neighboring ranch. They joked about catching each other’s eye over opposite ends of a calf during branding. Jeannie and Jeff were married on November 24, 1973 in the Ten Sleep Adventist church. Jeff and Jeannie moved to Worland. She worked as a homemaker, substitute teacher, dog groomer and caregiver. She also helped her husband, Jeff in their boot and saddle shop. Jeannie moved to Cody in 2012 to be near her son, daughter-in-law, and grandchildren, after the death of her husband Jeff.
Jeannie was a life long member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Jeannie is survived by her father George Greet, sister Bonnie (Fredrick) Drake, Sister-in-law Ruth Greet, brother Tom (Linda) Greet, Son Troy (Loralei) Jeffers, Grandchildren Dean and Cedar, and many other family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Jeffery Jeffers, her mother Geneva Greet, and brothers Rodney and Marvin Greet.
Services will be held in Cody on November 14th at 4:30p.m. at the Seventh-day Adventist Church.
