Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Richard (Lance) Picore
passed away November
21st, 2016 in New Castle, Colorado while visiting family. Lance was born May 25, 1944 in Minneapolis, MN to Richard & Mabel Picore. His father was in the Army and involved in the Invasion of
Normandy D-Day and was killed 2 weeks after Lance was born. They moved back to Lead, SD to be close to his mother's family. It was hard in the forties to be a single mother raising a new son, but family and friends stepped in as an "adopted family" and Quentin Nelson and Mr. Larson were two very influential male figures in his life growing up.
Lance graduated Lead high school in 1962 and enrolled at South Dakota State University for 1 year until he transferred to Black Hills State University in Spearfish, South Dakota. During
Spring Break in 1966 Linda Newbrough travelled back to Lead with her best friend, Marty
Ann Ferrero where she met Lance. They instantly hit it off and had been together for 50 years and married for 48 years.
They were both teaching in Eagle Butte, SD when they had their first son, Michael Quentin
Picore in December of 1974. Their second son, Jared Charles Picore was born in July of 1976. They all moved to Worland, Wyoming in 1979 where he continued to teach U.S. History, Government, Geography and Driver's
Education until he
retired in 2006.
For those who knew him-he was always
joking and telling stories. He had a laugh and smile that lit up the room and it was hard not to be happy when you were around him. He loved meeting new people and had an uncanny ability to become friends with them almost instantly. He loved his sons and grandchildren-Hayden, Mason, Penelope and Austin and cherished spending all the time he had with them. He loved U.S. History and
travelling with Linda, as well as shooting, photography, going to the mountains to cut wood,
Yellowstone, his cars, taking care of their yard and caring for their animals.
He is survived by his wife Linda Picore, his sons: Michael (and Kristi Picore) and Jared
Picore, his grandchildren Hayden, Mason, Penelope, and Austin Picore as well as multiple
nieces and nephews.
A Memorial service will be held at 3:30pm on Saturday, December 3rd at the Worland Middle School Auditorium. In lieu of flowers the family asks that a donation be made to the Worland Humane Society or St. Judes.
