Closings on land for new school property this month

TEN SLEEP – The progress of the land purchases needed for the new school was addressed at Monday’s Ten Sleep School Board. The land purchases are close to finalization with closing dates set for all four parcels of land needed for the new school.

Closing for the Compton property and the Masonic Lodge will be on Dec. 15 at 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. and the closing for the Anderson Ranch and Sayles property will be Dec. 19 at 10 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

The Anderson Ranch property when the new school is finished will be the home of the new football field and the other three properties will be for additional parking.

In the April school board meeting Superintendent Jimmy Phelps explained that the original timeline for the building of the new Ten Sleep School had changed. “Well the building of the new school has not been put on hold, the Wyoming Legislature appropriated money this last session to buy the land that we need for the building and the next step after that will be money for the design and hopefully we will have that money appropriated at the next session. When we first started talking about building this building probably 12-18 months ago, they (Legislature) were looking at a faster time frame, but because of the budget cuts necessary this last legislative session, they are taking it in slower increments,” Phelps said. “In 2017 or 2018 could be theoretically when the money is appropriated for the design. It’s all based upon how much money the Legislature has coming in. The steps are purchase the land, then design of the building and after they design the building they appropriate money for construction,” he added.

Also during the board meeting Monday evening officers were elected. The election process was brief with a board member nominating another member, the nomination being seconded, little to no discussion with a vote by the members in favor of the nomination.

Clerk – Jane Thurston.
