Larry A Harward

Longtime resident of Livermore, CA, Larry Harward age 80 passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, December 14, 2016. Born in Kenilworth, UT on April 8, 1936; he was the fourth of seven children born to Arthur Harward and Clarissa Tidwell Harward. His childhood years were spent in Utah; in his teens, his family moved to Wyoming. In Worland, WY in 1955 Larry met Margie at a Youth for Christ meeting. It was love at first sight, and they married three years later.

Larry was an amateur boxer; he was the 1961 Wyoming State Golden Gloves Welter Weight Champ. He coached boxing and was active in Jaycees on the local and state level. He began his career in the beverage industry in 1960 as the Production Manager at Fremont Beverages in Worland, WY. In 1966, Larry, Margie, and daughter, Heidi moved to Flint, MI where he was Assistant Plant Superintendent for the Pepsi Cola Metro Bottling Company. In 1969, Larry's career moved the family, which now included son, Barry to Denver, CO. In 1970, Larry began his career with Safeway stores and the family moved to Bellevue, WA where he managed a Safeway beverage plant. In 1972, Larry was promoted to Regional Manager and began his corporate career with Safeway. The family made their residence in Livermore, CA. In 1987, Safeway transferred Larry and Margie to Brea, CA where he managed a beverage plant. Larry retired from Safeway in 1996, and Larry and Margie moved back to Livermore in 1998 to the delight of their children and grandchildren.

Larry lived a rich and happy life; he was well loved and loving in return. He had a multitude of friends; he was well known in his neighborhood and community. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He was a man of integrity, great humor, and had a sentimental side that he showed more and more as he grew older. He was a wonderful father to his daughter and son, and he thoroughly enjoyed his five grandchildren and great granddaughter.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Margie, daughter, Heidi Stark (Luiz), son Barry (Laura), five grandchildren, Drew Stark (Britt), Kate Stark Brunicardi (Mike), Jenna Stark, Jacob and Karli Harward, and one great-granddaughter, Macy Taylor Brunicardi.

Larry loved to have his family around him, and he touched lives with his quick wit and kindness. He will be greatly missed and forever loved.

Private family services were held on Wednesday, December 21 at Callaghan's Mortuary, 3833 East Avenue, Livermore with burial at Memory Gardens in Livermore. A public celebration of life will be held in the Spring.
