Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Sara Carolyn Hilton Babbitt

Sara Carolyn Hilton Babbitt passed away peacefully January 21, 2017 with her family by her side. Sally was born July 15, 1927 to Katherine and Charles Hilton in Oakland, California, the younger of two children. She grew up mainly in the Bay Area of California with a few years in Montana and Mount Isa, Australia. After graduating from the University of California, Berkeley with a degree in sociology she took a job at that University. It was during this time that she went with one of her friends to a YWCA dance for the service men stationed in the area and met her future husband, Don Babbitt. They were married September 1, 1955 and came to Worland to make their home. Sally worked for a few years, then for the next 60 years worked as a mom and housewife, a job she loved. She spent her time taking care of her husband and children, being a Cub Scout leader and Sunday school teacher, as well as a substitute school teacher. She also enjoyed reading and being a member of several service and church groups.

Sally loved to travel. Her traveling adventures started when she was a child when her family went to live in Australia for three years. Then she joined her father on a trip around the world when he retired. Don and Sally enjoyed many years of traveling across the United States filling in all the lower 48 states and Alaska on their sticker map on their RV. They also traveled to Central America, Mexico, Russia and Europe. They so enjoyed their traveling friends and all the people they met along the way.

Sally's best times were spent with her family. She loved being a mom, grandma and great-grandma, aunt and wife. Trips with the grandkids or to visit relatives and times camping were some of the best! We will miss her very much but she will live on in the hearts and memories of those that loved her.

Sally is preceded in death by her parents and sister, Marybelle (Leonard) Cool. She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Don Babbitt, their children and spouses, Carolyn and Randy Durr of Worland, WY, and Harold and Susan Babbitt of Laramie, WY. She is also survived by four grandsons and their families, Sheldon and Sonja Durr of Spokane, WA, Carson and Kelsey Durr, and their Children Lila and Nora of Bozeman, MT, Don and Faryn Babbitt, their children Don, and Harlow, and Parker and Katie Babbitt all of Laramie, WY.

She is also survived by her loving extended family, in-laws, Barbara and Estell Brown, of Cody, WY, along with many nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, January 28, 2017 at the Worland United Methodist Church beginning at 2:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Worland United Methodist Church. Veile Mortuary is entrusted with arrangements.
