WHS Student Council raises funds for Make-A-Wish Foundation

WORLAND – Every year during the months of March and April the Worland High School Student Council raises funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation to help make a child’s wish come true.

“We have raised around $1,500 each year for the last two years,” Worland High School student council advisor Christy Vickers said.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation grants the wishes of children with cancer and other terminal conditions. According to the Make-A-Wish Foundation website, “We grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Wishes are more than just a nice thing. And they are far more than gifts, or singular events in time. Wishes impact everyone involved - wish kids, volunteers, donors, sponsors, medical professionals and communities. The impact varies. For wish kids, just the act of making their wish come true can give them the courage to comply with their medical treatments. Parents might finally feel like they can be optimistic.”

The Worland student council members will have four different events to help raise money. Members have split into four different groups, each group being in charge of one event.

The first event will be an assembly for the high school on March 21. During the assembly the student council will have some activities, a last minute penny collection, egg roulette, Worland High School Student Council President Hannah McEndree said.

At 7 p.m. on March 21 the council will host the Warrior Pageant in the little theater at the high school, which is open to the public. At the beginning of the pageant a boy and a girl from each class will be dressed in their best warrior outfit. After that there will be multiple categories like lip sync and school trivia; how well do you know your classmates, warrior group member Dalton Jeffries said.

A pancake breakfast will be served from 8-11 a.m. on April 8 in the Worland High School commons for the soccer tournament.

The student council is sponsoring a volleyball tournament, where the teams pay-to-play at 6 p.m. April 11.

This year the student council is striving to generate more than they did in the last two years, Vickers said. We encourage people to come to the Warrior Pageant, pancake breakfast and volleyball tournament, she added.
