Solid Waste Board announces new manager and approves upgrades

WORLAND – The Washakie County Solid Waste Disposal District No. 1 board met Monday to announce a new manager, and review upgrades to the facility.

Mike Siegfried, of Worland, replaces previous manager Gene Claime, who died in March.

“So far, everything seems to be going smoothly,” said Siegfried during his report to the board of directors.

During regular business, the board approved all bills, including a contracted payment of $38,000 to Inberg-Miller Engineers of Casper. The firm previously reviewed the plans for the redistribution of the landfill to already-developed reserve pits, and outlined the stipulations requested by the Department of Environmental Quality to build berms to control runoff.

According to Inberg-Miller, the permit from the DEQ to redistribute within the landfill property could be secured by June, and the process is almost complete. The original, proposed budget of $285,000 for the project was expected to cost an additional $38,000 due to design modifications to accommodate the DEQ’s requests.

The board also approved a bid by Roy Decker and Sons of Worland to upgrade the garage and entry doors on the cardboard storage facility, at a cost of $7,100.

Also approved was a plan to replace existing fluorescent lighting with energy efficient T-8 lighting at a cost of $1,641, meanwhile saving at least 18 percent in energy costs with the new lights.

To help improve safety and traffic flow, the board discussed replacing existing tire barriers with concrete jersey barriers, available from Hout Fencing of Worland.

The Washakie County Solid Waste Disposal District No. 1 meets every second Monday of each month. All meetings are held at the landfill, and are open to the public for comment.
