The Riverton Police Department posted Tuesday night that, “A safety issue has been identified within Fremont County school district #25. Preventative actions are being taken. Additional police patrols will be present at all district school facilities Wednesday May 10th. School will operate as normally scheduled.”
One Riverton parent contacted the Northern Wyoming Daily News via Facebook and said she opted not to send her children to school, and included photos of armed police officers around the school.
The Riverton Rendezvous Elementary parent group posted a message by Superintendent Terry Snyder that, “The security actions being implemented today are preventative and designed to detour any planned actions. The threat originated at the high school. We believed security needed to be in place at all district facilities. It is our intent to protect all staff and students to the highest level possible. We believe we can provide proper protection, that is why we decided to have school as scheduled. Please be extra alert today. Thank you for everything you do!”
