Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
WORLAND – The CatchAFire team is holding a free barbecue at the Circle J Ranch east of Ten Sleep Saturday from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. for anyone who wishes to attend.
Co-coordinator Frank Ley stated that everyone one is welcome, single and married, with and without children, young or old, regardless of denomination to enjoy a day of fellowship, encouragement and God’s love. “I’d like to call it the family day at Circle J, just because we are actually able to bring family. A lot of people are worried about, well I don’t have family. Even in church this past weekend, I said well look to the person to the right, look to the person to the left even if you are by yourself and say you are family. That’s what we want, we want to let them know that God’s family is all people and yet not everybody hears His voice at the same time and we just want to encourage one another,” Ley said.
“Catching a fire is built on the thought of realizing what God’s word says and what it means to each and every one of us. That’s how CatchAFire came about because we wanted others to catch the same fire, spark and energy that we are getting from a faith that encourages us and gives us hope.” Ley said.
The barbecue will have pulled pork cooked by Red Arrow BBQ, hot dogs, beans, chips and all the fixings which have been donated by the CatchAFire team.
Four different local musical entertainers will be playing during the event. Sam Sanchez will be playing from 11 a.m. – noon. Breck Buer will be playing from noon – 1 p.m. Jeff Garza will be playing from 1 – 2 p.m. and a praise band from Thermopolis will finish the day from 2 -3 p.m. “We are not sure if they are bringing other people with them, they maybe just playing their guitars or whatever on their own. Then again it’s just to create a back drop, people can just come to listen to the music or they can just watch what else is going on,” Ley said.
Besides eating, event goers will have the opportunity to fish Ten Sleep Creek, play basketball, volleyball, horseshoes or tug-of-war. There will also be hiking and a rodeo bull head for young and old to try their hand at roping.
Ley stated that Circle J’s atmosphere will give attendees a chance to reflect on the blessings that God provided. “When we look around our communities and we see businesses closing and we see cutbacks with jobs and school systems and the divorce rate in this area is very high, we want to encourage this family that what we have in Christ bridges all these gaps. We want to encourage one another that in these times He is faithful to us and we do have so many blessings,” Ley said. “A lot of countries that we see in the news have bombs overhead and seeing people displaced who don’t have all that we have and we just want to enjoy the beauty that God surrounded us with and Circle J is just the place to just reflect and go back to that thinking,” he added.
The area where the event is being held is handicap accessible. “If someone is in a wheelchair or has problems walking we have an area in which we can bring them in through the lodge and onto a deck which overlooks the property and they will be able to admire and observe all the different activities that may be going on at the time,” Ley said.
Coordinators Frank Ley, Ed Lujan and Circle J’s Sandy Slater worked together to make this event a reality and look forward to enjoying fellowship with all who attend.
