THERMOPOLIS - Day one of the 3A East regional meet is in the books and for Worland High School Track they are looking to close out the final day of the regional meet today at Hot Springs County High School on a positive note and hopefully carry over some momentum for the state meet next week.
"It was hot and as a coach I was trying to keep the kids out of the sun. It can really drain your energy if you're not careful. Overall, we have several kids going to the finals and it's just exciting. We have to keep doing the things we did Friday and things will be looking up for us," said WHS track coach Tracey Wiley.
Some of the highlights for Worland include Lady Warrior Lyndzi Rich finishing first in the discus, and teammates Mariah Alcaraz finished third and Alexa Caberllo fifth. Warrior Porter Harman finished first in the 3200. Josh Garza cleared 12-9 in the pole vault which was good enough for second place. Stone Ramos finished seventh in the long jump.
Senior Lady Warrior Kylie Woffinden advanced to the finals in the 100 and 200 which also qualified her for the 3A state meet in Casper on Thursday. Freshman Julie Seidel was seventh in the triple jump and will also moving on to state.
Senior Warriors Brad Lyman and Cody Newell will be running in the 110 hurdle finals. Gabe Webster ran a personal record in the 400 finishing seventh and advanced to the finals. "It was a huge PR," said Wiley on Webster's performance. Joseph Keller will join Webster in the 400 as he finished eighth in the preliminaries.
In the 800 Harman was fifth and teammates Victor Olvera and Tyler Hasbany finished in sixth and seventh, respectively. Warrior Morgan Tigner was eighth in the shot put which places him in the state meet.
Full results along with a recap of Worland's outing at the 3A East regional meet will be in Tuesday's edition of the Northern Wyoming Daily News.
