WORLAND — The 2017 Wyoming State Young Authors results were released last week with three Worland students earning top honors.
First-place honors for Worland went to Kaitlyn Bostrom, non-fiction, 10th grade, “Giving Up”; Gavin Schneider, poetry, seventh grade, “Advice from A …”; and Sullie-Ann Keuntjes, poetry, 10th grade, “A Garden for Bree.”
Earning honorable mention from Worland were:
Fiction: Tanner Stott, eighth grade, “The Examination Zone”; Sariah Durrant, 12th grade, “The Little Well.”
Non-fiction: Kale Kienlen, first grade, “You’re Not A Cowboy Yet!”; and Krew Neighbors, second grade, “The Cold Buffalo Hunt”; Mason Normand of Colter High School, “The Night Everything Changed.”
Poetry: Sarah Dietz, second grade, “The Seasons: A Collection of Poems”; Jack Bishop, sixth grade, “There’s a Fly In My Room And Other Assorted Poems”; Carmyn Buckman, eighth grade, “Solutions”; Erving Bujanda, 11th grade from Colter High School, “Window of Opportunity.”
From Ten Sleep, Jacob Holiday, earned honorable mention in poetry for “Lazy F, Hanging A Poems.”
From Basin, Riverside High School junior Shayli Peterson took first in poetry for “A Study in Emotion.”
Entries were judged in April from first-place winners at local contests around the state. Winning submissions came from Worland, Ten Sleep, Casper, Jackson, Gillette, Evanston, Powell, Cody, Green River, Burns, Dubois, Rock Springs, Alta, Encampment, Glenrock, Douglas, Farson and Basin.
