A glimpse into a woman's mind

Most people know that the majority of women are multi-taskers. There are several things running through our mind at any given moment.

This is why, for example in our newsroom, my one reporter (yes the one who is a woman) and I can have a conversation in the morning and pick up the conversation again in the afternoon out of the blue. We both know exactly what conversation we are starting up again, while everyone around us (yes the men) are lost.

So today I want to take you into a glimpse of a woman's mind, particularly mine, if you dare. When I drive to and from work that's when my mind is the most active and many things run through it.

Are you ready for the ride? Let's go.

What time is it? Oh good, I thought I was running late but I'm not. Wish I didn't have to close and open the gate but better to make sure the dogs stay safe and away from the highway. Which way should I head into work? I'll take the usual route (down South Flat Road).

What do I have to do today? I think Marcus has the front page story today but I'll need to find some front page art. Oh, there's a motorcycle behind me, boy he's coming up fast and I'm going the speed limit. Well there he goes passing me. He's sure in a hurry. Hmmm. Here I am in a car with air bags and required to wear a seat belt and there he goes with no helmet. Wonder why legislators want to protect the lives of those in regular vehicles so much but don't require much safety equipment on motorcycles or ATVs.

Oh look there's a deer in the field. Nope no spot to pull over and my camera is in the trunk. She'd leave by the time I got the camera out. Not sure I have the right lens either.

I wonder what kind of art we can get for page 6. Do we have art for the community page. I think this is the day the large legal runs on page 5. One less page for me to layout.

Boy it sure feels good to have two of my stories done for the Big Horn Basin edition. If I can just get through Friday with all my stories in and everyone else having their stories in the layout should go easy and we'll make press deadline.

Should I stop and get the mail now? No, better wait in case they're still getting it out. I can get it at lunch.

Speaking of lunch, do I have anything at home or do I need to go to the store. Oh ya I still have leftover pizza.

And then I arrive at work and head to my desk. The multi-taksing and multi-thought processes don't end when the driving ends.

It's sort of like when a woman cleans house. We start in one room, say the kitchen but there's an item that leads us to the bathroom and as we put the item away we see something that needs done in the bathroom, which somehow leads us to the bedroom.

I start by checking email and as I work on one email I remember something else that needs done, which brings to mind another project and so on.

By the end of the day everything is miraculously done. We, as women, just took the long way, or the multi-thought process way, to get there.

Did you survive this journey? I hope so. It's a journey I take multiple times a day, as do most female readers. And now, you husbands, boyfriends, brothers and fathers have a glimpse into the complicated mind of a woman, a busy woman.

This is my gift to all you fathers out there. Women are complex creatures, it's best you not try to figure us out.

Happy Father's Day to all the fathers out there.
