Wyoming Democratic Party State Central Committee meets in Thermopolis

Former presidential candidate and Maryland governor Martin O’Malley to speak

THERMOPOLIS — The Wyoming Democratic Party will be holding their quarterly State Central Committee Meeting this Saturday in Thermopolis at Common Grounds, 122 North 5th Street.

All registered Democrats in Wyoming are welcome and encouraged to attend any and all of the events planned by the WDP throughout the day.

The meeting begins at 8:30 a.m. with the executive committee, followed by the women’s caucus brunch, progressive caucus leadership elections, Young Democrats of Wyoming organizational meeting, legislative presentation on interim committee business and it ends with state central committee business.

After the State Central Committee Meeting, the WDP will host former Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley for a Pig Roast at the Bar-N’ Supper Club & Cabin Retreat in Thermopolis starting at 6 p.m. This event is open to any member of the public, but is a ticketed event. Tickets can be purchased on the WDP website, wyodems.org.

O’Malley had a short-lived presidential bid in 2016.

Regarding the pig roast with O’Malley, WDP Chairman Joe M. Barbuto said, “We’re thrilled to be welcoming Governor O’Malley to Wyoming, and particularly the Big Horn Basin. Over the last several months, he’s been going places where national Democrats don’t often visit, and encouraging our party to build from the bottom up and listen to voters in rural America. It’s a great message for Wyoming Democrats as we prepare for the 2018 election.”

Howie Samelson, chairman of the Hot Springs County Democrats, said, “I was flattered that the Wyoming Democratic Party chose Thermopolis to host their quarterly State Central Committee Meeting. Having Governor O’Malley as the guest speaker at Saturday’s dinner just emphasizes how important small towns and rural Americans are. I look forward to hearing what he has to say about us in Thermopolis and our unique place in American politics.”

Washakie County Democrat Party Chairperson Mandy Weaver said she will be attending.

Regarding O’Malley speaking, she said, “I think it’s really awesome that we are able to get a speaker of such a high caliber to come to [Thermopolis] and speak to all of us to help us out. I think it speaks to the energy that’s around the party right now. There are so many people that are ready right now to get involved, who are excited.”

On July 14 at Hot Springs State Park there will be a potluck and social gathering at 7 p.m., Weaver said.
