UPDATE: Randal Gebo was arrested in Downers Grove, Illinois by the Illinois State Police following a traffic stop late Wednesday night. Gebo was identified as the operator and sole occupant of the 2009 Mini Cooper that belongs to homicide victim, Cindy Cook. Gebo was arrested without incident on outstanding Vermont arrest warrants for aggravated vehicle operation without owners consent and fraudulent use and possession of a credit card issued to another. The vehicle was seized as evidence, by Illinois State Police following Gebo’s arrest.
WORLAND — Local law enforcement received a “Be on the Lookout” notice yesterday morning for one 61-year-old Randal Gebo, after authorities in Johnson County reported the Vermont fugitive was heading west on U.S. Highway 16 toward Ten Sleep, and could possibly be camping in the Big Horn Mountains.
Vermont police have issued an arrest warrant for Gebo on charges of aggravated vehicle operation without owner consent and fraudulent use of a credit card, after 59-year-old Cindy Cook was found dead at the bottom of an embankment in Middlesex, Vermont, last week.
At approximately 3:13 p.m. on Tuesday, the Washakie County Sheriff’s Office received a call that a suspect matching Gebo’s description was at the Ten Sleep Brewery in Ten Sleep. Sheriff Steve Rakness confirmed on Wednesday that the call was unfounded, and Gebo is still at large.
Police believe Gebo is driving Cook’s 2009 Mini Cooper Clubman, a cream-colored station wagon, with a black top and black stripes on the hood. The vehicle bears Vermont registration GBH823. Gebo has been traced to West Prescott, Arizona; Perry, Oklahoma; and Buffalo, Wyoming, in recent days.
