Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Richard Raymond Baker, 89-year-old former Worland resident passed away on July 29, 2017 at the Wyoming Medical Center in Casper, Wyoming.
Richard was born on June 5, 1928 in Torrington, Wyoming to Albert Marion and Emiline Jean (Sutton) Baker. During Richard's early years the family lived in many towns in the northwestern part of Wyoming as the family helped to start many farms in the area. On a blind date in his twenties, he met Teresa Faye Andrews, he told his friend, "That's the girl I'm going to marry!" True to his prediction, he and Faye were married August 30, 1952 in Deaver. They shared nearly 65 years together and were sealed for time and all eternity in the Salt Lake City Temple on April 23, 1968. They were blessed with seven children: Robin Lane, Sandra Joyce, Diane Faye, Janice Anne, Richard Randall, Anita Beth and Raymond Albert. Richard worked in the oil fields, mainly R. L. Manning, around during their early marriage. He later went to work for Wind River Trucking doing long-haul and later Transystem Trucking during the sugar beet season. In the 1960's he decided to become an independent trucker traveling from Salt Lake City to California. His favorite type of work was farming and being involved in the world of agriculture. With a family of nine to feed, Richard always had another job lined up, "just in case..." In his later years there was always a project, or ten for him to tinker with in his garage. These projects were always a work in progress.
Richard became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the 1960's, first attending to appease Faye, but growing into church service. He and Faye returned to Worland in 1975 where they made their home until Faye's health failed her in 2014. Richard joined her in the Poplar Living Center a few months later where he remained until the time of his death.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Jim, Bob and Bill; sisters, Esther Salzman, Ruth Sutton, Helen Wells and Lena Dellos; five children, Sandra, Diane, Janice, Anita, Randy and two grandchildren.
Survivors include his sons, Robin Baker (Linda) of Worland and Raymond (Janice) Baker of Casper, 15 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, sisters, Shirley (Vern) Ernest of Casper and Betty Grant of Salt Lake City, UT.
Graveside services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, August 5, 2017 at the Lovell Cemetery. Online condolences may be made at http://www.bryantfuneralhomeonline.com.
