Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years
Robert Walter Ditmer passed away on September 14, 2017 at the age of 92. He was born on August 8, 1925 in Cincinnati, OH to Walter Charles and Mary Elizabeth (Hunt) Ditmer.
Bob graduated from West Milton High School in West Milton, Ohio in 1943. He moved to Wyoming in 1946, where he met and married Xelda Mae Arlen Stillwell. They celebrated their 61st anniversary in 2008. To that union, five children were born.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Worland.
Bob started at the Worland Post Office in October of 1947 and retired as the postmaster in 1984. After retirement he pursued learning to play the organ.
In 2009, Bob moved to Mission Ridge in Billings, Montana, and made a whole new set of friends. He continued to play the organ at weekly concerts for the residents. In the last years, due to failing eyesight, it was all from memory.
Robert is survived by: daughters Arlynn (Mike) Wawrzewski of Garnett, KS; and Rebecca (Ed) Garding of Billings, MT; sons Larry (Lois) Ditmer of Topeka, KS; Tim (Lois) Ditmer of Denver, CO; and William (Vivian) Ditmer of Grass Range, MT; granddaughters: Wendy (Travis) Jones, ChristiAnn Ditmer, and Emily Garding; grandsons: Michael (Elizabeth) Wawrzewski, Louis Garding, Jonathan Ditmer, Paul (Hart) Ditmer, Josh Paumer, Jeremy (Morella) Paumer, Stephen (Kristi) Ditmer, Max Ditmer and Andrew Ditmer and 14 great grandchildren: Macy, Trey, Kalyn, Darron, Zelaya, Landon, Ryan, Corey, Nathan, Gavin, Harper, Isabella, Sebastian, and Kaeli.
Robert is also survived by three sisters: Esther Bunch, Marilee (Jack) Todd, and Carol Bradfield; two brothers, Ed Ditmer and Don (Connie) Ditmer and sister-in-law Joanne Ditmer.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and brother Jim Ditmer.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30am on Saturday, September 23rd at the First Baptist Church, 1101 Big Horn Ave, Worland, Wyoming 82401. Interment will be immediately following at Riverview Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held at Veile Mortuary on Friday, September 22, from 4-6pm as well as from 9-10am on Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Worland.
