Serving the Big Horn Basin for over 100 years

Charlotte May Dean

Charlotte May Dean, 81-year-old Worland resident, passed away September 23, 2017 at the Billings Clinic.

Charlotte was born on November 12, 1935 in Basin, WY, the sixth of eight children born to Everett Melvin and Vivian Jane (Brunk) Holdren. She grew up in Worland attending Worland High School through 10th grade. The summer of her sophomore year she was married to Lawrence Louis Dean in Thermopolis. This began a wonderful life of 66 years together. Charlotte helped her husband in many ways, being his "right-hand man". After he retired in 1992, the couple became snowbirds, weathering out the cold in Wickenburg, Arizona.

Charlotte enjoyed sewing and crafting, especially knitting and crochet. She was an avid reader, even to her last stay at the hospital, she had her son go buy her a book to read. Her love of life is apparent in the message she had typed for her children.

"I had a wonderful childhood. My parents were the best!! I loved school and my classmates were life-long friends. My marriage to Lawrence was full of adventure, love and peace. We grew up together. He was good and kind to me and I did love him so. My children were my pride and joy. They gave me so many happy times and were always there for me. My grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Lord, love them! What can I say? I had so much fun with them each and every time we were together. I am so proud of them! What a wonderful life!"

She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers: Joseph and Johnny, sisters: Ileen, Edna, Helen and Sarah and by her husband, Lawrence on July 30, 2017.

Survivors include her son, Lawrence, "Larry" Dean of Worland; daughters: Elizabeth Kay (Duane) Lance of Thermopolis, WY, Pamala Ann (Johnny) Portillo of Saratoga, WY; grandchildren, Lana Elder of Saratoga, Devon (B.J.) Reinert of Centennial, CO; great-grandchildren, Maggie and Ryland; sister, Yvonne Knosp of Pahrump, NV and numerous nieces and nephews.
