Homecoming Week starts with burning of 'W'

WORLAND — Homecoming week begins Saturday night at Worland High School as this year’s student council is bringing back the burning of the “W” to kick start the week.

The burning of the W will begin at 8 p.m. when a huge W constructed by the shop class will be burned behind Warrior Stadium.

Student Council President Paris Caines and members Saige Jones and Jade Hefenieder presented information on the festivities at Monday’s school board meeting. Dress up days throughout the week will be favorite team, toga (as long as outfits meet school code), generation where freshman and sophomores will dress up as babies and juniors and seniors will dress up as the elderly and teachers as teens, Thursday is time travel day and Friday is school spirit day.

Board member Dean Dupree joked with the student council members as he offered to be a consultant on how old people dress for that dress-up day.

The pep assembly and announcement of homecoming royalty will begin about 11 a.m. after the traditional all-school photo is taken at 10:30 a.m. The assembly will be in the WHS gym.

The parade will run down Worland Main Street (Big Horn Avenue) beginning at 1:30 p.m.

The homecoming game with the Warriors and the Cody Broncs kicks off at 7 p.m.

The homecoming dance will be on Saturday.
