Utah Rep. Smith's chief of staff named BLM deputy director

ST. GEORGE, Utah (AP) — A Utah congressman’s chief of staff has been named a deputy director at the U.S. Bureau of Land Management.

Brian Steed has served as Republican Rep. Chris Stewart’s chief of staff since 2013 and previously worked as his campaign manager.

Steed, who has a law degree, also taught economics and political science at Utah State University and served as deputy attorney general in Iron County from 2003 to 2005.

The (St. George) Spectrum reported Friday he’ll serve as the BLM’s deputy director in charge of programs and policy.
